Project Overview
Bytes Cyber Café needed a modern, tech-inspired identity to establish itself as a go-to destination for digital professionals and gaming enthusiasts. The project focused on creating a sleek, futuristic logo that would translate well across signage, digital platforms, and merchandise.
Challenges
The main challenge was designing a logo that struck a balance between being edgy and approachable. The café wanted to attract both hardcore gamers and casual customers who needed a quiet place to work.
Solution
I developed a mixed retro and modern logo featuring a digital-inspired 8-bit typeface and a character of a living computer screen. This design conveyed the cyber theme while maintaining readability and scalability.

Dive Deeper into the Process
The inspiration for Bytes Cyber Café’s branding came from a combination of food-related logos and early video game aesthetics. An 8-bit font was chosen to convey a nostalgic gaming feel, while the colour palette incorporated blue to evoke the calming presence of the nearby ocean and green to reflect the lush local environment and a sense of balance.
Having full creative freedom, I explored multiple design directions before settling on a simple humanoid computer screen character. Earlier iterations included an armadillo and a monkey, as well as a wordmark logo without a character. However, the whimsical personality of the computer character resonated best with the brand’s identity.
The logo was created in Illustrator to ensure perfect scalability. It was designed to be used as large as a business’s brick wall or as small as a letterhead icon, maintaining clarity at all sizes. The final design was well received, with the owners appreciating the humour and personality of the computer screen character. It complemented the café’s market positioning while standing out from competitors. Aside from the logo, I also created a few basic digital backgrounds for the café’s computer screens, using the brand colours and logo.
While I have not seen the branding in person due to the café being located in Mérida, Yucatán, the owners were thrilled with the final outcome, and the logo helped establish a strong and inviting identity for the café.

The Bytes Cyber Café logo features a custom hand-drawn typeface, originally sketched on graph paper to achieve an authentic 8-bit gaming aesthetic. The goal was to create a unique, non-generic pixelated type that felt playful yet professional.
