Project Overview

Love Bug & Honey is a seasonal illustration and printable design created for Valentine’s Day. The project focused on developing a charming illustrated pair of characters and a love letter template that could be easily downloaded, printed, and shared. Originally created as a downloadable Valentine’s campaign asset for a private client, the template was later shared through my own channels after the campaign concluded.
The goal was to balance playful character design with a clear, printable layout that would feel personal and gift-ready while remaining simple to use. The final piece combines custom vector illustration, a stylized wordmark, and a formatted letter template designed for both digital distribution and home printing.

Challenges

Balancing character illustration with functionality while preserving space for a handwritten message.
Designing the template to be intuitive and accessible so it could be easily printed and used by a wide range of users.
Structuring the editable EPS file so designers could customise the artwork while maintaining proper attribution.
Establishing a simple licensing structure that allowed free personal use while supporting commercial licensing.

Solution

To create a clear and production-ready printable asset I:

Developed a illustrated header featuring the “Love Bug” and “Honey Bee” characters.
Established a warm colour palette using reds, pinks, and yellows to reinforce the Valentine theme.
Designed the printable template layout with clear margins and adequate writing space.
Exported production-ready files, including a high-resolution printable PDF and an editable EPS version.
Packaged the artwork for distribution with licensing information and organised downloadable assets.

Process

Sketching & Concept Development – Explored romantic and playful motifs, defining the Love Bug & Honey theme and character direction.
Illustration & Colour Refinement – Developed the vector characters and supporting elements, refining colour and composition to complement the message space.
Printable Layout Design – Structured the template layout with clear margins and balanced spacing for handwritten messages.
File Preparation & Export – Produced a high-resolution printable PDF and an editable EPS version with organised vector layers.
Distribution & Licensing Setup – Prepared the downloadable files and structured licensing for personal and commercial use.

Results

The final design was delivered as a printable PDF and editable EPS, allowing both personal use and designer customization.
The template format allows users to easily print, customise, and share a personal message.
The inclusion of an editable EPS version provides flexibility for designers who wish to adapt the artwork.
The licensing structure supports both free personal use and commercial applications.
